One of my New Years resolutions was to try and take more trips this year and over the past few weeks perusing everyone’s top travel spots on Pinterest, I’ve been dreaming of where I’d go next.
For as long as I can remember I have been lucky enough to be well travelled. When I was a kid my parents looked forward to nothing more than their two weeks in the sun every summer and that meant seeing some awesome places over the years, like Spain, France, Portugal, Bulgaria.
My obsession with this place knows no bounds! I’ve seen it represented in dozens of movies and tv shows and I’ve always been fascinated with the laid back southern vibe. New Orleans is so old and full of history and a melting pot of cultures from all over the world. Now more than ever, after recovering from infamous Hurricane Katrina, New Orleans strikes me as a place of character and strength.
It’s best known for its food and it’s jazz and they’re two good enough reasons for me to go and visit, setting aside all of the rest of the awesome stuff you can do.
It’s packed full of things to explore, from the French Quarter to visiting Jackson Square, you can tour plantations and channel your inner American Horror Story and visit the haunted LaLaurie mansion and Marie Laveau’s house of voodoo! I love America anyway, but this place is number one on my bucket list.
To me Dubai has always seemed like the most futuristic of places. To tell you the truth I don’t know where exactly my urge to visit this place came from.
I’m fascinated with how a place can be so modern and yet so traditional and ancient all at once. Dubai has all this in spades!
The Burj Khalifa is truly a sight to behold and the mix of modern architecture and Middle Eastern lifestyle is what probably what appeals to me most!
The Deira souks, Grand Mosque and Bastakia Quarte are located amongst trendy nightclubs, out of this world shopping malls and exquisite food.
Middle eastern customs have always intrigued me and now that trips to the UAE seem more and more attainable, this is one trip I hope to tick of my list soon.
As a former history student, usually I love all my holiday spots to be soaked in culture and heritage. Cuba is no exception to this rule.
To me Cuba is just steeped in old world charm and not only boasts excellent food and incredible Cuban jazz but also golden beaches and crystal clear water too.
As far as things to do go, for me Old Havana is a must, along with the Plaza de la Cathedral and Varadero Beach.
There you have it folks, my top three trips I want to take this year. What places do you want to tick off your bucket list? Let me know in the comments!
